The much-awaited letter from Miss Bingley arrives. They will definitely not return to Netherfield all winter. Bingley is staying in Darcy’s home. Darcy’s sister’s merits are praised, with the implication that Bingley will marry her. Jane is determined to forget her attachment to Bingley, since she is sure that she was mistaken in imagining that he admired her. Elizabeth believes that he likes Jane as much as ever, but that he has yielded to the wills of his sisters and Darcy.

Mr Wickham is often in the Longbourn household. He has told many people of his suffering at the hands of Darcy. Jane is the only one ever to defend Darcy.
