Sir William Lucas visits in order to announce his daughter’s engagement. Mrs Bennet and Lydia start by refusing to believe him. Mrs Bennet is outraged and even more angry with Elizabeth. The friendship between Charlotte and Elizabeth is altered. Collins writes to invite himself for another visit, causing Mrs Bennet much displeasure.
Caroline Bingley has not replied to Jane’s letter. Elizabeth worries that his sisters will be successful in preventing Bingley from meeting Jane. Mrs Bennet cannot bear to hear anything concerning Charlotte Lucas though her continual talk about Bingley causes Jane great distress.
