Sacral Chakra (Svadhishthana) symbol
The symbol of the sacral chakra is composed of six lotus petals around two concentric circles which create a crescent moon shape.
Six lotus petals represent 6 vrittis (modes of consciousness): anger, envy, hatred, cruelty, pride, and desire. These vrittis are the cause we are tied up with the cycle of birth & death. In sacral chakra, one can break this cycle and raise the consciousness level through conscious efforts.
The circle in the centre is the representation of the water element present in our body. Apart from water, the upturned crescent moon is also an important symbol of Svadhishthana. It represents the female energy and establishes a link with the subconscious.
Location: Below the naval
Responsibility: Regulating emotions, sexuality, creativity.
Colour: Orange
Element: Water
Svadhishthana is the Sanskrit name of Sacral chakra. Sva means “Self” and adhishthana means “rule” or “dwelling place”. On combining root terms Svadhishthana literally means “place of self” or “place where self rules”.
This shows the purpose of the sacral chakra is one knowing their own identity and the exploring of individuality by means of personal emotions and creativity coupled with desires in relation to pleasure.
The sacral chakra supports emotional and physical aspects over seeing many of the bodies fluids and sex organs. Energy which flows through the sacral chakra stimulates confidence and sensual dynamism.
The sacral chakra is associated with emotional connections and relationships. It builds an emotional foundation which gives flexibility but also firm boundaries to help create healthy loving relationships and connections.
A balanced sacral chakra will maintain balance in relationships avoiding unnecessary isolation and traits such as co-dependency and overwhelm of negative feelings such as guilt and blame and jealousy.
The sacral chakra is orange in colour like the setting sun and you can personally open and activate this chakra as you surround yourself with the colour orange.
The feelings and effect of this glorious orange colour in and through the body capture the wants and desires of sexuality, imaginative and creative desires among so much more of our relational needs. Orange is a warm and exciting colour suited perfectly for this lively aspect of our being.
When you meditate, picture this bright orange sunset glowing colour under your navel, breath it inside and allowing it to release around your body.
The sacral chakra is vital in keeping us connected and vibrating among the universe which provides so much for us on our life journey. In the search for our life’s purpose so much of the pleasure aspect of the path comes through the sacral chakra and so much activity of the other chakras is connected to how this area is maintained and loved and balanced.
With this in mind it is the case that should the Svadhishthana become closed and out of kilter and balance, then so would the other chakras. Perhaps this should be the place we never lose sight of when balancing and cleansing and healing our chakras? The gateway to a total cleanse of pleasure.
A balanced Sacral Chakra…
The sacral chakra, the water element, isn’t only about personal relationships and sensual or sexual pleasure in a physical sense. It is also vital for developing a strong emotional foundation to grow as an individual, freely expressing one self in the outside world and being a protector against the relentless and alluring powers of the actual world.
The Second Chakra, the sacral, can face all manor of challenges showing the strength to dust down and go again when the going gets tough. The Svadhishthana fundamental relational energy hub gives purpose to the person to find what they appreciate, how their values suit their lifestyle and make adoring and energizing connections.
The Svadhishthana is the establishment of a sound conscience that permits us to associate with the world without undercutting ourselves or claiming to be somebody else. Making strong decisions of a financial nature place strength through the complete chakra system keeping the body and mind in full open flow.
An unbalanced Sacral Chakra…
You will know and feel immediately when your sacra’ chakra is unbalanced and it’s energy is weakened and flagging. Feeling the opposite to how a balanced sacral chakra feels, the feelings of being excessively delicate, anxious, nervous, and vulnerable. Unable to move forward and adapt to the things life brigs to you daily.
When this chakra at the root is closed and blocked, people automatically feel the lack of control in their life and actions which further weakens their energy and belief systems. Being unable to express ourselves freely impedes creative abilities and restricts the noticing of new opportunities for happiness. This in turn can cause co-dependency which diminishes self-assertion and causes separation from oneself and ones conscious awareness.
Issues soon become ‘big’ issues such as financial or pleasurable functions which appear to be more dramatic blockages, over-active feelings escalating into over the top emotional episodes and profound mood swings which destroy balance and create a guilt and disappointment in the failure do succeed in even the most basic of daily tasks let alone create and forge a new exciting dynamic path ahead.
Imagine this bright orange sunset light of the sacral chakra below the naval of your chakra system, the lower abdomen. When all these negative feelings and behaviours begin to overwhelm and the breakdown feels inevitable picture this sunset colour glowing and flowing its light shining the area with a healing orange powder as a warning of suffering alignment. Heed the warning of this powder cloud and breath the orange light through and within and around your body so that your sacral chakra begins healing and cleansing and opening again, with this calming yet powerful colour.
Chakra Significance
It doesn’t have to be complicated or overly philosophical to consider the benefits of paying attention to the 7 chakras.
Without a doubt they are areas of the physical human body we are all familiar with. You don’t have to be religious or sceptical to know that looking after your health is key to your personal happiness and prosperity.
So it makes sense that we should ensure we maintain and care for ourselves from top to bottom and the 7 chakras are a wonderful illustration and map for guidance on how we can try to do this daily, both physically and non-physically. Emotionally and intellectually. Spiritually and consciously. You don’t have to believe in anything in particular and it doesnt matter what you believe, if anything.
There may be 7 chakra different points yet they are not wholly independent of each other and do not work in isolation. In fact they are in total coordination with each other, connected and reliant on each others wellness. Having said that it is useful to understand their functions alone to see this connection and also useful to work individually on each chakra to open and cleanse and heal which aids the over all healing of the chakra chain
Every day sacral chakra
The sacral chakra is the second chakra, relational energy hub, in your body’s chakra system. It’s associated with your emotional body, creativity, and sensuality with its energy characterized by flexibility and flow, as the water element. Its function is guided by the principle of pleasure.
It’s the chakra that’s closely associated with emotional responses and often described as the seat of emotions. It’s also connected with the sense of taste and with the reproductive functions.
Since it’s a close neighbour of the root chakra, it’s just one step removed from your preoccupations about safety, survival, and the instinctual sensory perception of your environment.
The sacral chakra lets you creatively deal with what comes out of your experiences and develop a response that’s influenced by your intelligence and emotional patterns.
Because of the sacral chakras close physical connection with the pelvis and the reproductive organs, this chakra is also the centre of your discovery for pleasure, whether through sensual pleasure or your daily life experiences.
It’s important at this point to halt the wrong vibrations which will only spiral into a path of pleasure reduction, physical pain, poor decision making and blocks of creativity and belief. When your energy stagnates and you are overwhelmed with anxiety and insecurity and panic then your tendency to be harsh on yourself with mean words and angry actions is at greater risk. This is the moment to pay attention to the sacral chakra warning and change the way you speak to your self.

Triangle Pose
The triangle pose, also called Trikonasana (“trikona” is a Sanskrit word for “triangle,” while “asana” means “pose”), is a foundational standing pose in yoga that strengthens and lengthens the hamstrings and groin while also opening the shoulders and stretching the hips. The foundational posture is named for the triangle shape your body makes during the move.. Starting in the mountain pose (or Tadasana), move your feet a little wider than shoulder-width apart, and extend your arms, so they’re parallel to the ground with your palms facing down. If you’re starting on the right side, the right foot should be at a 90-degree angle with the end of the mat, with your left foot at a 45-degree angle.
Bend to the side. Take a deep breath, then exhale as you bend your body at the hip joint, extending to the side over the right leg (if you’re starting on the right). Keep the sides of your waist long, not scrunched. Lengthen your tail-bone towards your back heel.
Reach with your arms. As you reach your right arm down to your right foot, gently grab your ankle with your right hand. At the same, your left arm should be extending upwards, with the fingers of your left hand pointed towards the ceiling, forming a straight, vertical line with your arms and shoulders. Hold and repeat. With your shoulders aligned, turn your head and look up to the ceiling. Briefly hold, then return to the starting position and repeat with the left leg.
